    Take-all root rot causes wheat to die prematurely, resulting in patches of tan wheat in otherwise green fields, most severe in continuous wheat. The fungi that cause the disease survives on crop residues. Crop rotation with most crops is an effective control.

    Barley yellow dwarf is a viral disease that attacks many grass hosts, including wheat, oats, and barley. Aphids spread the virus. Symptoms include stunting and yellow or red discoloration of the leaf tips. The disease usually occurs in patches 1 to 5 feet in diameter.
